Frances A. Couto, 79, of West Wareham passed away Sept. 18, at the Tremont Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center in Wareham. Mrs. Couto was the wife of 57 years to Gilbert Couto of West Wareham.

She was born in New Bedford and she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Mary E. (Hettish) Hayward. She loved her family, was an active member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Wareham and an avid reader.

Mrs. Couto is survived by her children: Elizabeth Couto of Wareham, Crystal Romano of New York, Gil Couto of Wareham, Debra Long of Florida and Alan Couto of Florida. She was the grandmother of Brian Couto of Colorado, Brandi Couto of Taunton, Carmine Romano of New York, Peter Romano of New York, Brad and Chad Goodman of West Virginia and Shane Couto of Massachusetts. She was the great grandmother of Devin, Daelynn, Julia Carliegh, Adeline and Matthew.
