Frederick Fontes Gomes, Jr., 77, of Wareham, formerly of Onset, died unexpectedly on Friday, December 27, 2019.

Born in Wareham, he was the son of the late Joseph “Josie” Andrews, Sr. and Dorothy “Dot” Andrews. Raised in Onset, Mr. Gomes was superintendent and foreman for Mass. Highway. He retired in 2008.

Mr. Gomes was a peacetime veteran and served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963.

Survivors include his son, Charles D. Gomes and his wife Anna of Staten Island, NY; his daughter, Lisa Gomes of Marion; his sister, Lorraine Gately of Hopkinton; his brother, Joseph Andrews of  Providence, RI; and his grandchildren, Savannah, Sydney and Talon Gomes. He was predeceased by his brother, the late Richard Andrews.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Thurs., Jan. 2, 2020, at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., (Rt. 28), Wareham from 9 to 11 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.  Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham.
