Friends of Wareham Free Library offer thanks

May 8, 2012

To the Editor:

The Friends of the Wareham Free Library would like to thank the citizens at Town Meeting who voted to accept the Spinney Memorial Library as a branch of the Wareham Free Library. We would also like to thank the many donors who provided the funds needed to create this wonderful asset to our town and the many volunteers and supporters of the cause.

In addition, we would like to thank Spinney, Inc. for donating the historic Spinney building to the Friends and the Town of Wareham for signing the "Donation Agreement" that authorized us to build a branch of the Wareham Free Library.

The Friends are providing the start-up funds and two full years of operating expenses. We are pleased to announce that a recent donation and grant funding will provide half of the funds needed for year three. The Friends are confident we will be able to raise the remaining funds to fully pay for the third year.

We will continue to fundraise to support the main branch, as we have done since it opened. While we were raising money for the Spinney project, we raised and spent more than $200,000 for the main library and will always support the library’s needs.

The addition of the Spinney Memorial Library to our library system is a positive step for our town. We believe that Wareham is heading toward a much brighter future and are happy to be a part of that future.

Please join the Friends, patronize the popular used book sales, and enjoy library events and programs held at both facilities. It’s an exciting time to have a library card!

Sincerely,

The Friends of the Wareham Free Library
