Gas leak resolved Thursday morning

Oct 21, 2021

A gas main near Atlantic Boats was struck during excavation work and began to actively leak on the morning of Oct. 21.

The Wareham Fire Department responded at about 8:20 a.m. Crews acted quickly to evacuate nearby buildings, secure power to the area, and connect to a hydrant in case water was needed.

The Wareham Police closed the road, and Wareham Emergency Medical Services Director David Evans was on hand with an ambulance.

Gas company representatives secured the leak within 30 minutes, at which point Assistant Chief John Kelley declared the situation to be under control. Firefighters stayed on scene to make sure the area was clear of residual gas.

No one was injured.
