Gateway Youth Hockey Bantam team picks up a win and a loss
Gateway Youth Hockey's Bantam team, which was recently inducted into the challenging Yankee Conference, is now 2-2 for the season after fall to North Attleboro and a win against the South Shore Eagles.
Gateway just couldn't keep North at bay on Sept. 16. The team suffered a 6-0 loss, but Couch Mike Houdlette credited Wareham's Jacob Tomasik with a "great game" despite the loss.
It was Gateway's turn to shine on September 23, however. The team defeated the South Shore Eagles in Randolph with a score of 6-1.
In the first period, Doug Breault scored with an assist from Will Paling, and again with an assist from Mike Houdlette.
To end the first period, Matt. St.John tacked two unassisted goals onto Wareham's score.
In the second period, Brian Holmes tucked one into the net with assists from Brady Smith and Alex Atkinson.
A short-handed break-away goal by Mike Houdlette in the final period ended the game and gave Gateway the win.
Coaches said that goalies A.J. Bridges and Chase Cunningham were outstanding in the net for Gateway.
