George E. Eardley, 90
George E. Eardley, 90, of West Wareham, died Thursday, Sept. 3, at Kindred Transitional Care at Forestview in Wareham. He was the husband of the late Ruth F. (Groden) Eardley.
Born in Toronto, Canada, Mr. Eardley was the son of the late George and Catherine (Hawkshaw) Eardley. A former resident of Stoughton, he moved to Wareham in 1996. Mr. Eardley was employed for the Stoughton Public Works department for many years.
Mr. Eardley was a proud veteran of World War II. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 and was a member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed golf, fishing, ballroom dancing at the Roseland Ballroom and playing BINGO at Great Hill Estates.
Survivors include his son, Kevin Eardley of Wareham; two daughters, Elaine M. Butterworth and her husband Gary and Kathy Fisher all of Wareham; four grandchildren, Jennifer Gropman and her husband Francis, Ashley Fisher, Kevin Eardley and Kristin Eardley; three great grandchildren, Hannah Gropman, Shea Gropman and Isabella Cronin.
His funeral will be from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway on Monday, Sept. 7 at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, High St., Wareham at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Graveside committal will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 8th in Knollwood Memorial Park, 321 High St., Canton at 10 a.m.
