George (Sonny) J. Miranda, Jr., 81

George (Sonny) J. Miranda, Jr., 81, of East Falmouth and formerly of Wareham, passed away on Monday, November 1, 2021, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, with his family by his side. 

Born in New Bedford, MA, on December 31, 1939. Son of the late George J. Miranda, Sr. and Bevinda (Gomes) Miranda. He was raised and attended school in Wareham. After high school, he worked in construction. In 1977, he became a member of the local Union 385. He retired after 33 years. After retirement, he drove for the President of Bridgewater State University for 8 years. 

Sonny moved to Falmouth where he met and married Anne (Craft) Miranda in 2009. 

Sonny was an avid fan of fast cars, motorcycles, boxing, the Dallas Cowboys, and most recently, the Kansas City Chiefs. 

Sonny was an usher at St. Anthony’s Church in East Falmouth for the 11:00 a.m. services.

If you drove by his home on any given day, you would see him washing his cars or sitting in his car listening to his music and watching the cars go by. 

Sonny’s greatest love was his family and friends.

Sonny is survived by his loving wife Anne (Craft) Miranda, his brother Melvin Miranda of Harwich, sister Paula Miranda of New Bedford, sons Sonny Tavares of Wareham, Anthony Pina of New Bedford, daughter Lisa Miranda of North Carolina, stepdaughter Crystal Craft of Mashpee, and grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Paul Miranda and Manuel Miranda, daughter Taylease Pina and stepdaughter Kimberly Craft. 

Visitation will take place on Monday, November 8, 2021, from 4 - 7 p.m. at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 475 Main Street, Falmouth.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church, 167 East Falmouth Hwy. (Route 28) East Falmouth. Burial is private.
