Getting fit to fight cancer

Aug 19, 2014

A local fitness studio is hosting a "class-a-thon" and vendor fair to benefit cancer research on Saturday, Aug. 30.

Fierce Fitness, a boutique-style fitness center established in August 2013, will be hosting the events from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The class-a-thon will consist of half-hour fitness classes from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The classes will be: Zumba, Extreme Fit, kickboxing, yoga, HardCORE which is an abs/core class, bootcamp, Power Yoga and Fierce, the studio's signature class that combines a little bit of everything. Classes are $5 per class or $25 for all seven.

After the class-a-thon the gym will be hosting a vendor fair at the studio with proceeds from the sale going to benefit charity. Some of the vendors will be Silpada jewelry, Lia Sophia, Pampered Chef, 31 Bags, and many more.

Andrea Tarrant, the owner and operator of Fierce Fitness, said the gym is raising money for the Susan B. Komen Foundation as one of the studio members will be participating in this year's walk for breast cancer awareness. The studio is also raising money for ovarian cancer research.

"Several of our members are cancer survivors; others have had parents that have passed away from both breast and ovarian cancers so we are doing our part not only to help those who are currently undergoing treatment for cancer, but for those who have conquered it, and the ones we want to memorialize," Andrea said.

The studio is located at 3065 Cranberry Highway across from Benny's.
