Getting ready for town election

The Selectmen, School Committee, Board of Assessors, Housing Authority and Constable all feature contested races for ten seats available in the April 1 election.

Selectmen: Two three-year terms. Selectmen Judith Whiteside and Peter Teitelbaum will up for re-election and Wareham resident Michael Frates will also be running.

School Committee: Two three-year terms. School Committee member Clifford Sylvia will be up for re-election. Ken Fontes will not be seeking re-elcetion; his open seat will be sought after by police officer Karl Baptiste, former dean of students Melvin Lazarus. Wareham resident Christina Brousseau has also taken out nomination papers.

Board of Assessors: Two three-year terms. Assessor James McCahill, Friends of Wareham Library President Priscilla Porter and Capital Planning Committee Chairman James Giberti have all taken out papers to run.

Housing Authority: Three seats are open here: A five-year term, a three-year term and a one-year term. Incumbents Rudy Santos and Bill Lockwood are running for the five-year and one-year terms respectively. Agawam Village resident Henry Fernandes and former Finance Committee Chair Donna Bronk have taken out papers for the three-year term.

Constable: One three-year term. Incumbent Stephen Coughlin and Wareham resident Gary Mooney have taken out papers to run.

The last day to register to vote in April's election is March 12.
