Gleason Family YMCA puts new basketballs  to good use

Jul 17, 2014

The Gleason Family YMCA recently received 35 new basketballs, thanks to a donation from NBA Cares, DICK’s Sporting Goods and Spalding. The donation provided new basketballs to the Youth Basketball League, a program that encourages kids to be physically active, develop skills and learn sportsmanship.

“The Gleason Family YMCA is thrilled to have been selected to receive this generous donation from NBA Cares and its partners,” said Laura Prisco, executive director of the Gleason Family YMCA. “Y programs support youth development from cradle to career. We ensure that children and teens in our program reach their full potential by helping them grow – physically, mentally, and socially - from young children to engaged, active members of the community.”

Camp Ne-In-Nae at the Gleason YMCA will utilize the basketballs during the Sports Camp session that focuses on basketball skills from Aug. 11–15. The basketballs will also be utilized during the Sport Mix Youth Program, a non-competitive class for 5 to 8-year-olds that develops coordination and teaches basic concepts of sports. The Sports Mix class meets Saturday’s, 8:30-9:00 a.m., at the Gleason Family YMCA, members $56 & General Public $98.
