Good day for Grumpy

Highest turnout ever for annual Grumpy's Run/Walk
Nov 7, 2015

The warm weather Saturday helped bring a record number of participants to  the annual Grumpy’s Cranberry Harvest 5k Run/Walk at Tihonet Village.  Almost 200 runners and walkers registered for the event that takes participants along country roads and cranberry bogs owned by A.D. Makepeace Company.

The event is sponsored by the Cranberry Educational Foundation, which uses proceeds to help fund its educational activities.

Greg Lashoto, 31, of Foxboro finished first with a time of 19:10.  Alison Carr, 22, of Hanover was the first female to cross the finish line at 22:06, followed quickly by Bianca Greco, 11, of Falmouth.

It was a family affair for the entire Greco family, as Bianca's brother Marcus, 9, and parents Kathryn and Vince all ran and finished the race.

Following the run/walk, Peter Beaton, Chairman of the Cranberry Educational Foundation, awarded prizes to the top three finishers in each age category.  Prizes included a variety of cranberry products and glasses.

The race is named for Robert "Grumpy" Conway, a longtime A.D. Makepeace Company employee and nature-lover who passed away in 2010. Grumpy was particularly well-known for his photos of the flora and fauna found in Southeastern Massachusetts cranberry country. A display of his nature-inspired photography was available for viewing and purchase during the post-race festivities.
