Senior citizens, Daisy Scouts, Wareham Police Officers, town officials and two dogs joined forces to put on a lively fashion show at the Council on Aging building on Tuesday, April 16. 

Participants ranged in age from five to 84, said Council on Aging Director Sharon Rice. 

“The seniors really like it,” said Rice, especially the multigenerational aspect of the event. “We try to make it fun.”

Daisy Girl Scout troop 84530 meets in the Cranberry Cafe in the Council on Aging’s space twice a month, said Rice. Last year, the Council partnered with a now-defunct troop to put on the show. 

Members of the Wareham Police Department accompanied some of the show’s stylish seniors down the aisles, including Wareham Police Chief Walter Correia. 

According to Correia, Plymouth County has a program called “Triad” that meets in the Multi-Service Center and aims to keep older adults safe. Triad is a cooperative program between the District Attorney, local law enforcement, local Councils on Aging and more to work together and reduce the criminal victimization of the older population. 

Correia first interacted with the Council on Aging through Triad, he said. Then the Council reached out and asked if the Police Department  would participate in the show. 

One of the show’s models, Sandy Atkinson, said she was a little nervous about the prospect of walking down a runway but was grateful to have a police officer  on her arm.. 

Atkinson had been a professional clown in her teens, but hadn’t done anything like that in a long time, she said. 

She grew up on a beach, so styled her garb with an “under-the-sea” theme, with sea-horse earrings and glittering, stick-on jewels around her eyes.
