Grace and the RSO back in the spotlight again
Grace and the RSO are once again making noise (beautiful-sounding noise, that is) in the South Coast area.
On Wednesday, a video for their song “The Trouble” debuted locally on Fox during a commercial break for an episode of American Idol. Next Thursday, they’ll perform at Twin Rivers, which will be one of the biggest shows the Americana/indie/folk act has played to date.
The video and upcoming concert both were the direct result of their victory in the ‘Big Break’ contest, part of WPRI 12’s The Rhode Show which took place earlier this month.
Lead singer Grace Morrison, who is from Wareham, said that the shoot for the video, which was the band’s first, was an amazing experience, and though the band doesn’t have any funding for another shoot, she’d like to do another in the near future.
“I don’t know if we have much of a budget for one,” she said, “but if anyone just wants be our sponsor and pay for another video, that’d be cool.”
The video, which is about a minute-long, shows Morrison and the ‘Really Small Orchestra’ playing their song at a ball room at the Biltmore Hotel in Providence, and it also shows Morrison on her own with a suitcase in different parts of the hotel. The Rhode Show also put out a behind-the-scenes short from the shoot as well.
Morrison said that the hair and makeup process seemed to be the longest part of the process of making the video, and that the entire video took only about four hours to shoot.
“It amazes me that she’s able to get so much into a short time,” said Morrison of Larisa Vlaslov, the video’s director, “but now I want a longer one.”
Morrison said the shoot was a little repetitious as they performed the same song over and over again, but still, she was very happy with the results.
“It was surreal (watching the video on television),” she said. “And I cried again.”
As for the concert next week at Twin River, which is at 8:30 p.m., Morrison and the band are hoping for a big turnout, and in the meantime, they’re focusing on getting a new CD finished, which they hope to have out by the end of June. They also recently booked a performance in Wareham for Wareham’s 275th Birthday Party on July 10 as part of the town’s Summer of Celebration.
Morrison said that she and band wanted to thank Cardi’s Furniture, who sponsored the Big Break contest, for supporting local music, and that winning the contest had already begun to pay dividends for the band.
“Venues that we reached out to in the past that wanted nothing to do with us are suddenly responding and interested.”
