Grace Morrison plays for Muscular Dystrophy Association
Wareham native Grace Morrison has gone from local favorite to concert headliner.
Morrison has been in the local music spotlight for much of 2014 as she competed in and ultimately won the Big Break Contest on WPRI 12’s The Rhode Show. Morrison's May 1 victory put her on the map for many high-profile music venues and events such as the New Bedford Folk Festival, where she will perform alongside other renowned folk artists on July 5.
This Sunday, Morrison will take the stage at The Ocean State Theatre Company in Warwick as the headliner for this year’s "Music for MDA" concert, which raises money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Music for MDA was created in October 2011 by Dr. Robert Miller, who had a vision to unite musicians and friends to raise awareness and funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Now in its fourth year, Music for MDA has raised more than $10,000 in the fight against muscular dystrophy, which is a disease that weakens the muscles within the body.
Morrison will perform alongside The Dave Richardson Band, Mad Gryphon, and Bob Miller and Friends.
Doors open at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Ocean State Theatre Company (1245 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick, RI 02886) and entertainment will run from 3 to 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 for non-student adults, $15 for students, and free for children under 13. They can be purchased at the door or online at MusicForMDA.com.
All proceeds will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the umbrella organization providing services and worldwide research for over 43 different neuromuscular diseases including ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and mitochondrial diseases. MDA provides services to over 900 families in Southeastern Massachusetts and Greater Rhode Island. Services include youth summer camp, support groups, and comprehensive healthcare at the clinics of Rhode Island Hospital, UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Mass General Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Tufts Medical Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, New England Medical Center, and the Lahey Clinic in Burlington.
