HazMat Day rescheduled for Oct. 21

The Town of Wareham rescheduled its HazMat Day for Saturday, Oct. 21. Officials encourage residents to begin collecting their hazardous products for proper disposal.

Electronics will not be accepted at this event.

From 9 a.m. to noon, items for disposal may be brought to the Wareham Municipal Maintenance Building at 95 Charge Pond Road. A valid transfer station sticker will be required to participate. The stickers are include with the cost of curbside trash pick-up, but those who have opted out will have to pay $125 for the sticker.

The following hazardous household products will be accepted: Acids, aerosol cans, ammonia and bowl cleaners, bleach, brush cleaners, bug killers, degreasers, drain cleaners, fertilizers, fire extinguishers, flammable liquids/solvents, herbicides, household cleaners and solvents, over the counter medicines, oven cleaners, lead-based and oil-based paints, paint thinner, stains, varnishes, swimming pool chemicals, waxes, weed killer, batteries, anti-freeze, motor oil (20 gallons limit), propane, spent gasoline, and products containing mercury (thermometers, thermostats, float switches, etc.)

All containers, gas cans, boxes, baskets, etc. must be left at the site.

The following household products will not be accepted: Asbestos, radioactive materials, explosives, tires, mattresses, ammunition, flares, medical waste, sharp objects or syringes. Also not accepted will be latex/acrylic paint as this is non-hazardous and can be disposed up by pouring it into Speedy Dry, a similar absorbent or even cat litter and putting it in the household trash.
