Heavy house fire on Monack Road in Onset causes power outages on street
On Sunday at around 5 p.m., a fire at 8 Monack Road in Onset was reported. Emergency broadcasts indicated heavy flames and smoke coming from the house.
According to a neighbor, who wished to remain unnamed, the fire started in the front of the house on the porch. The neighbor said he noticed smoke in the building about half an hour before Onset Fire arrived. The department was dispatched at 5:08 p.m. and arrived at the home at 5:10, said Chief Ray Goodwin.
The neighbor said three people were in the back of the house when the fire started, but there were no injuries, according to emergency broadcasts.
Paul Sweeney, who also lives on Monack Road, said his house lost power at around 5:15 p.m. and that power was out on the whole street.
