High school sports update

Baseball
On Wednesday, May 1 the boys fell to Fairhaven 7-3.

Softball

Wednesday, May 1 the girls lost to Fairhaven 11-1, and on Friday, May 3 they suffered a loss to  Seekonk, 14-0.

Boys Tennis

Wednesday, May 1 Wareham fell to Fairhaven 5-0.

Girls Tennis

On Wednesday, May 1 Wareham fell to Fairhaven 4-1, but on Monday, May 7, the girls swept Seekonk 5-0. Karli Griggs won first singles, Kristy Monty won second singles, and in third singles Stevy Baptiste walked away with the win. The first doubles team of Katie Modlowski and Nicole Nault won, as did second double pair Hope Wallace and Charlemya Erasme.

Boys Track

Thursday, May 2 the boys fell to Dighton-Rehoboth 82-45.  On Saturday, May 4, they competed at the Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech Invitational, and Mason Vasconcellos placed fifth in the mile with a time 4:41.77, putting him within 7.7 of breaking the Wareham High School record. Johnny Irving also continued to perform well, placing third in the shot put.

The State Freshman/Sophomore meet was held over the weekend, and Caleb Westgate placed sixth in the triple jump.

They lost Monday, May 6 to Fairhaven with a score of 86-50, but there were some individual wins. Caleb Westgate owned the triple jump, while Nate More took the 200m, and Bryce Spencer Jones came out on top in the 800m. Mason Vasconcellos continued to impress in his first year running track, winning both the mile and the two mile.

Girls Track

The girls also lost to Dighton-Rehoboth on Thursday with a score of  77.5-48.5, but like the boys they also had some individual wins. Maddie St. Julien had a great day, taking  first place in the 100m, 200m, and the triple jump. Emily Cummings won the high jump, and Lexie Calvin took the top spot in the shot put. Paige Fehskens continued to display her prowess as a long distance runner, winning the 800m.

On Monday the girls fell to Fairhaven, 76-59, but there were still plenty of winners for Wareham.

Lexie Calvin won the shot put and Caitlyn Berger took first place in the discus. Hunter Thatcher won the 100m, Aliyah Alley took the 400m, and Maddie St. Julien won the 200m.

The 4x400m relay team consisting of Zariah Lima, Aliyah Alley, Maddie St. Julien, and Emma Wynne also won.

Paige Fehskens qualified for the Division 3 state meet in the mile with a time of 5:39.9, bringing her within four seconds of the Wareham High School record which has stood since 1984.
