Historical Society hosts Old Time Fiddle Contest, players sought

Wareham Historical Society is hosting its 3rd Annual Old Time Fiddle Contest on Monday, July 4 at 10 am at the Congregational Fellowship Hall, located on Gibbs Avenue.

Divisions included the Junior Junior Division; for children ages 12-years-old and younger; the Junior Division  for children ages 13-to-18 years-old, and the Open Division.

Fiddlers can register for only one of the divisions. Space is limited, those interested are encouraged to register early.


Each contestant must play two old time tunes of their choice.  There is a five minute time limit for each contestant. In case of a tie there will be a one-tune playoff.

Judges will be looking for the best traditional old time fiddle players.  Styles could include New England Dance, Down East, Canadian, Southern U.S., British Isles, etc. .

Fiddlers may play alone or with a rhythm accompanist,  no electric or amplified instruments are allowed, and fiddlers must play lead melody at all times.

All prizes will be awarded at the end of the contest.

When you arrive at the contest, please go to the registration desk to let us know your tunes and draw a number for order of play.
