Historical Society presents first plaques
The Wareham Historical Society presented its first historical plaques at its meeting Monday night.
The first plaques for the new program were presented to Mary Rose, Dan Silveira and Cheryl Knapp. The Wareham Historic Commission, in partnership with the Wareham Historical Society, has established a voluntary program to provide a historical plaque bearing the construction date of the original owner or builder. The purpose is to recognize homes with historic significance, encourage property owners to learn more about their properties and educate the public on how a date reflects a period or style in home construction.
Any house or structure that is 75 years or older, is eligible. There are no restrictions to the homeowner’s property with the plaque’s purchase. The cost is $60.00 for each plaque with checks made out to the Wareham Historical Society.
The application can be found at warehamhistoricalsociety.com or on the Wareham Town website, which can be accessed through the Boards and Commissions, Wareham Historical Commission page. The application is also on the Onset Bay Association website.
