Home rehabilitation grants, loans available through Community and Economic Development Authority
Grants and loans up to $35,000 are available to eligible residents for home rehabilitation through Wareham's Community and Economic Development Authority.
Property owners must live or own property in the "designated target areas" specified in the town's fiscal year 2012 and 2013 Community Development Block Grants and meet income eligibility determined by the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Property owners may use the funds for improvements to: plumbing, heating, electrical, carpentry, insulation, roofing, handicap access, deluding, and other building code violations, among other uses. The Community and Economic Development Authority will work with qualified property owners to determine the scope of work and to identify qualified property owners.
The properties must be owner-occupied or investor owned. If a property is owned by an investor, the owner will be required to enter into a minimum 15 year "Rent Regulatory Agreement" to ensure that rents remain affordable during the term of the grant or loan.
