Honoring Memorial Day amidst a pandemic

May 26, 2020

Veterans, officials, and family members gathered on Monday morning to solemnly honor those who died while serving the country.

The ceremony included a wreath laying by Julio Rodericks, as well as comments by Bob Powilatis, the Commander of the American Legion, and Colonel Matt Stanton, a teacher at Wareham High School.

Stanton acknowledged the extraordinary circumstances of the pandemic, but said “that does not stop us from our obligation of paying homage to the veterans that gave their lives in service to our nation.”

Gary Franklin, Jay Franklin, Mac Phinney, and Cathy Phinney, members of the Wareham militia, also paid tribute to those who died in service to the country.
