Town receives funding from Plymouth County

The town of Wareham received $50,000 from the Plymouth County Commissioners as part of Plymouth County's American Rescue Plan Act.
The multi-year plan to help states, territories, tribal and local governments to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic has assisted the town since 2021. Funds could go toward projects like sewer infrastructure, public sector revenue loss and addressing negative economic impacts.
Commissioner Jared Valanzola presented the town with a check at the Tuesday, June 18 Select Board meeting. Valanzola said the county was happy to play a small part in supporting Wareham's plans.
"This is going toward the campaign of building the food pantry in town which is certainly a wonderful cause," he said.
Valanzola highlighted the town for being the only town in Plymouth County to use every service that the county has to offer.
"You're doing right by your taxpayers," he said. "You've been able to save your community millions of dollars."
Commissioner Sandra Wright said that Wareham has received $2,197,239.79 from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act and $4,085,848.53 American Rescue Plan Act to date.
"We're very happy that we could be a part of this," she said.
Town Administrator Derek Sullivan thanked the commissioners and said he hopes to see more programs from the county in the future.
"One of my skills is finding people that are smarter than me and work with them, so that's what we've done with Plymouth County," he said.
