Howard Foster, 75

Howard William Foster, 75, of Wareham, passed away at home on June 21, 2018, following a long illness. He leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Abigail Clark Foster, also of Wareham.

Foster was born in Brockton, on April 24, 1943, the son of the late Howard Joseph Foster and Anne Marie (Kadish) Foster. Growing up in Brockton, Foster was an avid swimmer and a 1961 graduate of Brockton High School. He also graduated from The United States Merchant Marine Academy in 1965, and then served 5 years in the U.S Merchant Marines, before being honorably discharged as a Lieutenant.

He then served as a Chief Engineer for the Woods Hole, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket Steamship Authority for 38 years, for which he received many commendations and was the union representative to the Steam Ship Authority for the Marine Engineers Benefits Association. He dedicated himself to his family and community. He was a member of the Wareham Lodge of Elks and a member of the board for the Wareham Land Trust. Foster was an avid and skilled skier, kayaker and a member of the Wampanoag Paddlers.

In addition to his wife, Foster is survived by his three children; Kevin Foster, Christopher Foster and Margaret Foster Junker; his five grandchildren, Owen Foster, Liam Foster, Aidan Foster, Abby Junker and Katy Junker; he was the brother of John Foster and Bob Foster, Marie Brady and Carol Ojiba, and a large extended family.

Visiting hours will be held on June 25, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. only with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m.  in the Wareham Village Funeral Home, 5 Center Street Wareham.
