Incumbents re-elected in Fire District election
Two incumbents were re-elected in uncontested races for positions within the Wareham Fire District on Saturday, April 19.
Richard England was re-elected to serve a three-year term on the five-member Prudential Committee and John English was re-elected to serve a three-year term on the three-member Board of Water Commissioners. A total of 292 ballots were cast, of which England received 269 votes while English received 220 votes.
"It was a positive turnout for me," England said. "300 people isn't that great for a Fire District election but when the races are unopposed a lot of people don't turn out."
England said with the $1.8 million in funding for the new water treatment plant voters passed at the April 14 District Meeting, he hopes some of the concerns about Wareham water will be quelled. "Wareham water is something people have always been proud of," he said.
John English could not immediately be reached for comment.
England said he would like to continue his work with the Fire Department to make sure first responders and the public are safe. Another goal of his is to continue his work with the Prudential Committee and the Water Commissioners to save the district money without compromising safety or service.
