Irene G. “Chickie” Cappello, 84

Irene G. “Chickie” Cappello, 84, of Wareham died Sunday, February 6, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Joseph S. Cappello. They were married at Blessed Sacrament Church in Jamaica Plain on March 23, 1968, and would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in March.

Born in Jamaica Plain, she was the daughter of the late Hector O. and Anna V. (Burns) MacDonald. She attended Blessed Sacrament School in Jamaica Plain. 

Chickie was proudly employed at Garland Knitting Mill in Jamaica Plain. She was a longtime resident of Pinehurst Beach in Wareham where she was known as the Cake Raffle Queen. Chickie was also a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Wareham.

Chickie was an avid tea drinker, skilled rummy player and enjoyed teaching card tricks to her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband Joseph of Wareham; her children, Marianne Iacobucci and her husband John of Wareham, Cindy Baronas and her husband Jim of Wareham, and Joseph J. Cappello of Wareham; her grandchildren, Ashton and Lizzie Cappello, Jenna and Kate Iacobucci, and Nathan and Sarah Baronas; her great grandchildren, Chandler and Hazel Pina; her sisters, Ruth Hudson of Denver, CO and Rita Currie of Braintree. She was predeceased by her siblings, the late Jeanette Buckley, William MacDonald, Mildred Davey, Dorothy Wright, Helen Wyatt, Arthur MacDonald and Anne Pittman

Her funeral will be from Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham on Mon., February 14, 2022, at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 94 High St., Wareham at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2 – 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
