James Deegan, 78

James E. Deegan, 78, of West Wareham, died July 6, in the Sippican Healthcare Center, Marion. He was the husband of Karen M. (Willwerth) Deegan and the son of the late Leo F. and Emily (Yourell) Deegan.

He was born in Brockton and lived in Rockland before moving to Wareham. He graduated from Rockland High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps.

Mr. Deegan was a mental health worker at Bridgewater State Hospital for many years before retiring.

He enjoyed all types of sports and being with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Karen M. (Willwerth) Deegan; two sons, Stephen M. Deegan of Wareham and James N. Deegan of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was the brother of the late Leo and Dennis Deegan.

Visiting hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Wareham, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
