Jazz and Gospel Concert at Community Baptist Church of Marion
Story Location:
441 Front Street

On Saturday, October 29th you are cordially invited to attend a concert of Jazz, Gospel and Contemporary music by Geoff Hicks. Last February Dr. Hicks led a Gospel concert at the church featuring the Tremont Temple Gospel Choir. For this concert he will appear solo performing a variety of music ranging from Jazz to Gospel to contemporary music.
Pianist, composer, performer, lecturer, recording artist, arranger and conductor, Geoffrey Hicks is a musician of many talents. In February of 2002, the Geoffrey Hicks entertained hundreds of guests at the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston, to celebrate Senator Edward M. Kennedy’s seventieth birthday, in an evening celebration which also featured cellist, Yo Yo Ma.
Hicks is a gifted pianist who swings hard whether playing Waller, Ellington or Sinatra, Geoffrey Hicks has been compared to Nat "King" Cole by WGBH's Ron Della Chiesa- a compliment which, though flattering, doesn't quite do Mr. Hicks justice for his own very personal style. Perhaps more to the point is John Robinson's comment in the Boston Globe that Geoffrey Hicks "can swing a crowded room into a state of bliss"
Community Baptist Church is thrilled to be hosting this outstanding concert for the community. Admission is free (a good will offering will be taken) and the concert begins at 7 pm! For further information please go to the church website at www.cbcmarion.org.
