Wareham's own March Madness is underway with the JBA Bobby Thornton Memorial Winter League teams battling in championship play.

Saturday, March 24

Division 2 Girls Championship

Hoop V Lady Wolverines, 13; Gateway Tavern Lady Huskies, 3

The Lady Wolverines controlled the game from the outset and rolled to victory as the ladies completed their second undefeated 12-0 season in three seasons. Jala Yates led the team in scoring with 8 points. Tazmyn Corbin scored 2 points and Sarah Perry added a foul shot.

The Lady Huskies fell short in their championship drive, but got 2 points from Emily Kaurenen and 1 point from Selena Mendes.


Division 3 Boys Championship

Narrows Crossing Restaurant Cyclones, 28; Fan Club Orange, 23

The Cyclones wrapped up the Division 3 Boys title behind a 17-point performance from Bryce Fernandes. Luke Burke had 6 points and Eric Zine hit a three-pointer. Nathan Nawoichick added 2 points.

Brian Whitney's 12 points kept the Orange within striking distance throughout the game. Jonah Depina scored 5 points and Ryan Tropeano finished with 4 points. Desmond Powell chipped in with 2 points.

 

Division 2 Boys Championship

Oak Grove Package Eagles, 36; Cotter Machine Tar Heels, 21

The Eagles stunned their third straight higher-seeded opponent to capture the Division 2 Boys title. The duo of Sonny Fernandes (15 points) and Jacob Asiaf (11 points) powered the Eagles on offense. Elijah McAllister scored 8 points and Xavier Hall added 2 points.

Jamual Sims had 14 points to lead the Tar Heels. Bryson Uhlman had 3 points while both Marcus Monteiro and Jon Spinner scored 2 points.

 

Division 1 Girls Championship

Nana's Ice Cream Parlor Liberty, 17; Salerno's Function Hall Sun, 16

After getting knocked down by a hard foul, the Liberty's Brianna Tavares stepped to the foul line with just 10.5 seconds left in the game and cooly knocked down both foul shots to take the lead and a short time later, the Division 1 Girls championship for the second year in a row.

Tavares finished with 6 points and Jillian Mello had 7 points. Ann Marie Luppino and Alexys Rose each scored 2 points.

The Sun got 11 points from Zoe Bowden to lead their offensive attack. Sasha Miceli and Jamie McCormack each scored 2 points. Lexus Calvin hit a foul shot.

 

Divison 1 Boys Championship

Wareham House of Pizza Bulls, 50; J & M Realty Bucks, 41

The Bulls led by as many as 18 points on their way to the Division 1 Boys championship. Jamahl Silva's game high 28 points pushed the Bulls to the title.

Alex Rezendes and Geoff Cardoza each scored 9 points. Anthony and Andrew Gomes finished with 2 points apiece.

Tanner Cannon's 17 points led the Bucks while Nick Galavotti scored 11 points. Mark Zaknoun finished with 7 points. Mason Lopes hit for four points while Brian Judge added 2 points.
