Jean Irene (Holley) MacDonald, 81

Jean Irene (Holley) MacDonald, 81, wife of LCDR (USN) Walter F. MacDonald of Wareham, passed away Sunday, March 20.

Survivors include her husband; her son Jack Jones and his wife, Mary, of Carver, her daughter Jeanne Taylor, of Carver, her son Jeffrey Jones, of Stoughton, and her daughter Julianne Victoria, of West Wareham; a brother, Stephen Holley, of Smartsville, California; a sister, Karen Cates, of Nevada City, California; her husband’s children, Annemarie Adams and her husband, Bob, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Irene MacDonald, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Patsy Bolding, of North Wales, Pennsylvania, Walter F. MacDonald, Jr., of Denver, Colorado, and John J. MacDonald and his wife, Kay, of Castro Valley, California, She was the grandmother to 12, and great-grandmother to nine children and grandmother to many on her husband’s side.

Her hobbies included quilting, gardening, and sewing. Jean was a den mother for Cub Scouts; a past President of both the Stoughton Junior Women’s Club and the Tobey Hospital Guild (2001-2003); a long-standing member of the Wareham Garden Club; a member of the scholarship committee for the Scots Charitable Society’s Women’s Auxiliary; and, a past President of the Green Valley Extension Homemakers in Mathias, West Virginia. Jean was a 1976 graduate of Bridgewater State University with a degree in Special Education, and she was also a former guitar teacher. She will be missed.

Her funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29 from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret’s Church, 141 Main St., Buzzards Bay. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Visiting hours are from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
