John P. McCain, 85, of Wareham, passed away after a brief illness on July 16, 2023, at Royal Cape Cod Nursing Home, Buzzards Bay.  He was the son of the late Frederick F. and Frances T. (Guidi) McCain.

He was born in Brighton and had the opportunity to experience various places throughout his life, including Louisiana, Florida, New Hampshire, Maine and Texas. He summered for most of his life at Sagamore Beach and eventually settled in Wareham.

Mr. McCain attended the U.S. Naval Academy and graduated from Boston College and then Suffolk University where he received a master’s degree in business management.

He worked as a construction manager for companies such as Perini and Turner for several years before retiring. 

He was an avid runner and participated in many triathlons along with his nephews and nieces.  He loved the ocean, sailing and reading.  

Survivors include his siblings, Thomas McCain of Webster, Jane Callanan of Plymouth, Mary Ahearn of Plymouth and William Y. McCain of East Wareham; many nephews and nieces. He was the brother of the late Charles McCain.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on July 28 at St. Margaret’s Church, 141 Main Street, Buzzards Bay. 

Donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
