John Peter Thatcher, Jr., 67, of Wareham, died Aug. 12, 2021, at home while surrounded by his loving family.  

He was born in Wareham and lived in Carver before returning to Wareham. He graduated from Plymouth Carver High School.

Mr. Thatcher worked as a Painting Contractor in the area for many years before retiring. He also worked on the cranberry bogs throughout his life and he especially enjoyed the harvest season.

He was a member of the Wareham-New Bedford Lodge of Elks. He enjoyed gardening, working in his yard, golfing and sports. He was a huge fan of the Miami Dolphins.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara (Barros) Thatcher of Wareham; his partner, Susan Akins of Wareham; a daughter, Tiffany Covel and her husband Jim of Carver; 2 grandsons, Trey and Tyler Doherty; 3 sisters, Bobbi-Jo Thatcher and Michelle Baptiste both of Wareham and Susan Thatcher-Madden of Carver; several nephews, nieces and friends. 

His services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Southcoast Hospice, 200 Mill Road, Fairhaven, MA 02719.
