Joseph F. Sorenti, Sr.

May 22, 2023
Joseph F. Sorenti, Sr. (Joe), of Sagamore Beach, passed peacefully at home on May 10, 2023, with his loving wife holding his hand and his nine children by his bedside.

Joe was born and raised in the village of Sagamore, with his younger sister, Judy (Papi), by his adoring parents, Rose (Messaline) and Frank. He often reminisced about the many happy times of his childhood growing up within a tightly-knit community of family and friends.

It was love at first sight when Joe met his future wife Mary (Lincoln) at Bourne High School and they married on November 10, 1951.  Throughout their remarkable 71-year marriage, Joe remained a devoted husband to Mary. He was a loving father to their nine children and an extremely proud grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family members often remark on his extraordinary ability to make each of them feel as if they were the most important person in the room.

As soon as he could work the gasoline pump, Joe began working at Sorenti Brothers, Inc. His work ethic was so outstanding that his father often remarked: “I could hire three men and they wouldn't get as much work done as Joe does in one day.”  Joe later bought the company, expanded it, and remained chairman of the board until 1998. In 1953, Joe and Mary started their entrepreneurial venture with the purchase of a tractor and a saw, selling cords of wood. They later expanded the company to build multiple businesses including Eagle Gas, one of the first unbranded gas stations on Cape Cod, Ye Olde Spirit Shoppe, as well as several other business and real estate ventures. Joe volunteered his time and resources on boards and committees too numerous to mention.

Joe is survived by his wife Mary (Lincoln), his children Mary Jo Coggeshall (Haydon), Joseph F Sorenti Jr., Judith Sorenti (Norman Anderson),  Janette Morse (Donald), James L. Sorenti, Jane Sorenti (Jon Persson),  Michael Sorenti (Lucille), Jennifer Sorenti (Ralph Burns), and Jonathan Sorenti (Cindy Pezza). His love continues to echo in the lives of his 25 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Papi, his brother-in-law Louis D. Papi, his daughter-in-law, Maureen (Bickerton) Sorenti, his grandsons, Richard Joseph Joy, Christopher Warren Joy, and Lincoln Anderson and his grandson-in-law, Michael Duca.

Visiting hours will be held from 4-8 PM on Tuesday, May 30th at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne, Ma. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 31st at 10 AM at St John the Evangelist, 841 Shore Rd. Pocasset, MA. Burial will follow immediately at St Peter’s Cemetery in Sandwich.
