Jr. Vikings dominate Franklin
The Gateway Jr. Vikings dominated Franklin on Friday, January 27, at the Foxboro Sports Center.
Leading off the scoring frenzy for Gateway was Stephen Toal with an assist from Sean Fagan. Sean Fagan then sent one by the Franklin goal tender with an assist from Stephen Toal, ending the first period with two goals for the Jr. Vikings and one goal for Franklin.
In the second period, Franklin tied it with an early goal, but then it was all J.r. Vikings. Kyle Fidalgo took one down the ice and into the net unassisted. Next, Alex Atkinson hit a high shot into the net unassisted. To end the second period, Alex Atkinson scored again with an assist from Nick Elicier and Brady Smith.
Gateway scored five goals in the third period. Stephen Toal led it off with an assist from Connor Kelley and Tyler Gallus. Next, Mike Houdlette snuck one by the Franklin goalie with an assist from Connor Kelley.
Scoring his first goal of the season, much to the delight of the crowd, was Alex Hathaway with a shot to the goal from a perfect pass by Sean Fagan.
Late in the third period, Brady Smith scored with a pass from Nick Elicier. Scoring his final goal and "hat trick" was Stephen Toal, assisted by Sean Fagan.
The final score was 10-5.
"The boys have been playing some great hockey. It's all coming together for them," said Coach Howie Ladd. "They're passing, they're fore-checking, they're back-checking, and just really hustling out there."
