K-9 search at High School yields no illegal drugs

Oct 28, 2014

Twelve K-9 units representing several southeastern Massachusetts police agencies found no illegal drugs during a search at Wareham High School on Monday Oct. 27, according to Wareham Police.

Police said the search was conducted without incident throughout the school and the parking lot areas with full cooperation of school staff and students.

The search, which was coordinated by School Resource Officer Karl Baptiste and Principal Scott Palladino, was conducted with no direct interaction between the K-9s, students, or teaching staff, police said.

K-9 searches are conducted at least once during the school year in Wareham.

Interim Police Chief Kevin Walsh said that although the results of this search in no way means drugs are not an issue in the school system, the results are encouraging, given the fact that in 2011, a K-9 search of Wareham High School resulted in seven students cited for possession of marijuana and 17 indications of illegal drugs throughout various areas of the school reported by K-9 units.
