Mar 31, 2022

John Kelley was officially sworn in as the Chief of the Wareham Fire Department on Thursday, March 31.

A small crowd of officials attended the ceremony at the district’s headquarters, where Kelley was sworn in by treasurer Wendy Lemieux.

Thursday also marked the start of former Chief Matt Rowley’s retirement. He was sworn in as chief in 2018, and spent his entire career with the department, having first joined in 1985.

“We’re extremely proud of him and want him to enjoy this next chapter,” Kelley said.

As far as retirement plans go, Rowley said that he plans to spend some time relaxing.

Kelley’s badge pinning ceremony will be held  at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, at the fire station at 273 Main St.
