Kindergartners get ready for first year of school
Soon-to-be kindergartners got a jump start on their first school year with the Kick-off to Kindergarten Rally at the Band Shell in Onset on Thursday, August 25.
The event was an effort to familiarize students with some of their new classmates and welcome them to the Wareham Public School district before kindergarten starts on September 8, said Mary Morgan, Early Childhood Coordinator for the district.
Students were given packets with a book to read with their parents and an "admit one" ticket to kindergarten.
In addition to welcoming families, Morgan stressed to parents the importance of reading with their children.
"Not only is it a bonding time with your child, but it builds comprehension and vocabulary," Morgan explained.
After singing a song and reciting a poem, the children grabbed pom-poms and megaphones and teachers helped them spell out "kindergarten" for the rally.
After the students got excited for kindergarten, entertainer Big Ryan provided some laughs.
