Lady Vikings runner-up at SCC meet

The Wareham girls track team wrapped up a stellar regular season with a second place finish at the South Coast Conference meet on Saturday, Feb. 8.

The team finished with 45 points, a distant second to Old Rochester's 129.5, but Wareham coach Chris Gardner said he can't remember the last time the girl's team placed this high.

"Not in the last 15, maybe 20 years," he said.

The girls recorded eight top-five finishes at the conference meet. Leading the way for the Lady Vikings was junior Madison St. Julien, who won the 300 meter dash in a time of 43.99 seconds. St. Julien qualified for the Div. 4 state meet in the 300 and the 55 meter dash, but is electing to go on a mission trip to Haiti with her church group instead of the state meet.

Other Wareham girls who will be going to this Sunday's Div. 4 state meet at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston include Hunter Thatcher and Ruth Gonzales in the 55 meter dash, Emily Cummings in the High Jump and 55 meter High Hurdles, Madison Koslowsky in the 55 meter High Hurdles, Kelley Peterson in the 600 meter run, Paige Fehskens in the 1000 meter run and Lexi Calvin and Caitlyn Berger in the Shot Put.
