The Wareham Historical Society will host a special presentation by Bourne — Wareham Race Amity that delves into the life of Belmira Nunes Lopes, Wareham’s first high school graduate of Cape Verdean ancestry and possibly the first person of color to graduate in Wareham. 

The event will take place at the Wareham Historical Soiety on Monday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m.

Belmira Nunes Lopes, a prominent figure in local history, left an indelible mark on the community through her remarkable achievements and contributions. The presentation, led by founding member of Bourne - Wareham Race Amity Wandra Harmsen, will explore her life and times. Attendees can expect to gain a deeper understanding of the historical context in which Belmira lived, her notable accomplishments, and the lasting impact she had on Wareham. The presentation will feature elements that will bring Belmira’s story to life.

This event is open to the public, and attendees are encouraged to bring their curiosity and questions for a question and answer session following the presentation. There is a $2.00 fee for non-members.
