Challenger Wendy Lemieux of Dinah’s Way ousted incumbent Wareham Fire District Clerk/Treasurer Marybeth Fernandes of Oak Street in a tight race on Saturday, April 13.

Lemieux garnered 451 votes for the clerk’s position, and 455 for the treasurer’s position, to Fernandes’ 410 and 405, respectively.

“I’m thrilled to have won and I’m looking forward to getting sworn in and getting to work,” said Lemieux on Tuesday. “I appreciate Marybeth’s twelve years of service to the district, and I appreciate the voters coming out.”

Fernandes served twelve years in the position. She did not return calls seeking comment.

A total of 866 ballots were cast in the election. The Clerk/Treasurer’s position was the only contested race.

“I’m a team player and I’m looking forward to working with this office and moving the district forward in a positive way,” Lemieux said.

In the two uncontested races for three-year terms on the Prudential Committee, John Connolly of Warr Avenue received 547 votes, and Chair George Barrett of Highland Terrace received 576. Both were seeking re-election.
