Library celebrates Dr. Seuss' birthday early
The green eggs and ham at the Wareham Free Library were fake, but the cupcakes were not.
The library held an early celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday Saturday morning. The late children’s author’s birthday isn’t until March 2, but the library isn’t open that day.
Librarian Marcia Hickey said she set up several activities for the children, including building a red-and-white striped hat, a la “The Cat in the Hat”, a plastic green egg relay, and a green eggs and ham basket toss.
“We had cupcakes, and we sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to Dr. Seuss,” Hickey said. “People started coming about 10:30!”
Lily, 7, and her brother Elliot, 4, were engaged in tossing green eggs and ham. They had never read Dr. Seuss books before, their mother Tanya said, but “they have really got into it.”
“It’s quite new to them,” she said.
