Library to host International Games Day event
Attention duelists! Though your hair may not be twice the size of your head, you will still be permitted to enter the dueling kingdom of the Wareham Free Library Nov. 21 for International Games Day.
This will be the second theme day the library has participated in. Reference services librarian Deb Rich said Amazing Gamin’ of Cape Cod will be there with a large gaming van, decked out with stadium-style seating, and two large flat screen televisions that can host up to 28 different players at once.
“We have indicated we are only interested in video games that are appropriate for kids and teens,” Rich said. “None of that [shooting gameplay].”
Rich also said local game and comic purveyor Cape Cod Collectibles will be there to teach kids how to play different games, such as Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, and Magic: The Gathering.
“I even heard Eric say [to his employees], ‘What are you doing on the 21st? You’re going to the library!’ ‘What are you doing on the 21st? You’re going to the library!’” Rich said, laughing as she recalled her conversation with the Cape Cod Collectibles owner. “It was great.”
There also will be several vintage board games on display, and their modern counterparts for children to play. Games will include Connect Four, Candyland, and Jenga.
The library will host one theme day a month, Rich said. She is hoping to put on a non-denominational and secular day in December.
The event is free, and will last from 9 a.m. – 1:45 p.m. Space is limited to 28 children. Parents should sign up their children to participate beforehand, and may email Rich at drich@sailsinc.org, or call her at 508-295-2343, ext. 1011.
