Lillian (Dias) Filkins, 96
Lillian (Dias) Filkins, 96, of Onset, died March 1. She was the widow of the late John Filkins and the daughter of the late Louis and Maria (Silva) Dias.
She was born in Onset and lived and worked there until the 1930s. She then spent a decade in New York City working as a domestic. She then lived in Boston for many years before returning to Onset in 1991.
She owned and ran a rooming house in Boston for more than three decades until 1986.
She was a lifelong animal lover.
Survivors include 2 grandsons, Kurt Ayau of Amherst, VA and Christopher Filkins of Boston; 2 granddaughters, Stacy Filkins and Michelle Filkins both of Boston; 2 great-granddaughters, Julia Ayau and Leah Ayau, both of Amherst, VA.
She was the sister of the late Laura DeGraca, Jenny Dias, Julia Bottigeri, James Dias, Tribbi Dias, Frank Dias, Manuel Dias, Julio Dias, Anthony Dias, Wallace Dias, George Dias, John Dias. She was the mother of the late Milton Filkins and Myrna Ayau and grandmother of the late Milton Filkins, Jr. and Louis Filkins.
Her funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Wareham, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High Street, Wareham. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Visiting hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
