Old Rochester Regional High School (ORR) Senior Kelsey Frink, of Mattapoisett, was awarded a $5,000 Lindsey's Family Restaurant and Shon Shadrick Memorial Scholarship on Thursday, June 3 at the school's awards night.

The scholarship honors the memory of restaurant-owner Cheri Lindsey's beloved nephew Shon Shadrick who was born with Down syndrome and passed away four years ago after battling leukemia. Recipients are required to major in special education in college.

"Miss Frink stood out among all the applications because of her passion for children especially ones with disabilities, Lindsey said. "In addition to her remarkable grades, stellar recommendations and numerous extracurricular activities, this person has a caring heart."

Miss Frink was presented several other scholarships and awards Thursday night including the Principals Award.

"Her resume looks like a lifetime achievement award and she's only 18," said ORR Principal Michael Devoll. "I don't know how she did it all."

Frink plans on attending Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas this fall with a major in Elementary Special Education.
