Lorraine M. Fisher, 87

Lorraine M. Fisher, resident of Wareham and Newton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2020. in Windham, New Hampshire, surrounded by family and friends. She was 87.

Born in Dorchester in 1933, she was the daughter of William C. Williams (Sergeant Detective  Boston Police) and Margaret Williams (Sullivan), also stepdaughter of Pauline Clayton Williams. Lorraine was the loving twin sister of Kathryn, sister to Robert and Gerald Williams.

Raised in Roslindale, MA, she graduated from Roslindale High School in 1950 and was a distinguished graduate of Boston City Hospital School of Nursing. She earned a Bachelors from Boston University in 1958, and a Masters in Education from the University of Rhode Island.

Lorraine served on the faculty of the New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing (1960-1963) and was also a respected faculty member at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth School of Nursing. Lorraine also served as the Dean of the Nursing Continuing Education Department. She dedicated her life to the mentoring and support of her students, who loved her integrity, kindness and generosity of spirit.

Lorraine was a tireless advocate for the environment as a longtime member and water quality monitor for the Buzzards Bay Coalition. Her efforts helped to bring positive improvements to the water quality of the Buzzards Bay watershed.

Lorraine was a mother that personified dedication, grace, courage, and kindness. She expected nothing less of her family. She is survived by her sons Paul S. of Hampstead, NH, Thomas J. of Amherst, NH, and predeceased by her son Robert J. and her husband John S. Fisher. She was a dear friend to her daughters-in-law Laura and Jennifer Fisher. She was a proud grandmother to Nathan, John, Amanda Libby, David and Renee and great grandmother of 4. She was a loving aunt to Sharyn, Robert, Kathleen, Skip, Michael, Scott, Rick , Faith and Amy. She was also survived by many loving relatives and friends.

Lorraine was an avid golfer, world traveler and blessed by many life-long friendships, in particular with Natalie Petersen, Joseph Piazza, and Robert Golemo whom she loved as family.

Memorial visiting hours will be held on Saturday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Wareham Village Funeral Home, 5 Center Street, Wareham. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. A family service will begin at 12:15. Per state guidelines, we have to limit the number of people to 40% capacity, and masks need to be worn by anyone over the age of 5 unless there’s a medical issue.
