Lucky leprechauns up for the challenge
From jokes to jumping jacks, kids got the chance to have a bit of healthy fun at the Gleason Family YMCA on Saturday
Dozens of kids participated in three workouts and an obstacle course in the Y's Lucky Leprechaun Challenge that included everyone ages 6 – 14. The challenge involved several physical challenges for participants, including running, stretching, push-ups, and jumping jacks.
Trainer Liz Sellinger led the bootcamp with the help of Conor Wilson and YMCA employee Cathy Longfield. Though she joked around with the kids, she didn't take it easy on them, either.
Sellinger started the challenge off with a warm-up, which included plenty of screaming, running, and stretching, in which even some parents participated. Participants moved quickly into a game of bingo, followed by a relay race that involved picking up gold coins with spoons.
The final challenge was an obstacle course with instructions to leapfrog, roll, crawl, balance, and tumble through each part.
In the end, each child received a prize from a table filled with toys.
On Thursday night, adults will have a chance to participate in “The Shamrock Challenge” which starts at 7:30 p.m. and costs $3 per person.
