Luxury subdivision pitched for old friary

Mar 23, 2021

The former home of the Society of Friars Minor of the Order of St. Francis on Robinwood Road could be the future site of seven luxury homes.

The subdivision plan, called “Maritime Haven,” was first presented to the Planning Board at their March 22 meeting.

The prospective developers, Rhode Island-based RESI, LLC, hope to split the roughly 8 acres of land formerly owned by the Friars into seven lots. The existing building at 42 Robinwood Rd. would be demolished, and the homes would be accessed via a new cul de sac.

Although the development has yet to be approved by any town authority, the development was advertised in the March/April 2021 issue of Coastal Home Life, a publication that describes itself as “the leading luxury coastal lifestyle magazine in Southern New England.”

A splashy two-page advertisement describes Maritime Haven as a “luxury waterfront community” boasting 300-degree water views and “amazing residential amenities” including walking trails and a private beach. The ad says the homes will feature four bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, and “smart home technology.” The houses will be designed and constructed by “HUS,” a company that describes itself as design-focused.
