Major renovations completed at Wareham Police Department
The Wareham Police Department has completed two major renovation projects aimed at modernizing facilities and improving working conditions for staff, including a full upgrade of the E911 Communications Center and renovations to the department’s Roll Call Room.
The E911 Communications Center, which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, had not been significantly renovated in more than 16 years. As construction commenced, the communications system was relocated to the station officers’ area for more than a week to allow work to be completed.
Communications Supervisor Sibby Flaherty led the project after securing a new 911 computer system through a state E911 grant and coordinating the renovation from start to finish. She was assisted by Executive Officer Lt. Mike Smith, Lt. Bryan Whalen, IT Specialist Stephen Rogers, Town IT Director Matt Underhill, IT Technician Justin Viera and other department members.
Police Chief Walter Correia credited communications staff for maintaining uninterrupted emergency operations throughout the transition. He also acknowledged the patrol division for adjusting operations during the temporary relocation of the communications center.
“Communications officers maintained the highest level of proficiency and commitment while managing the challenges of a displaced communications center,” Correia wrote in a press release.
At the same time, the department completed renovations to the roll call room under the supervision of Lt. Mike Smith and Lt. Bryan Whalen. Improvements included new paint, carpeting and the addition of a seating and snack area.
The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department assisted with preparation and painting work prior to installation of new flooring.
Correia wrote that the projects were completed with cooperation from police personnel, town staff, IT professionals, outside vendors, and partner agencies, and were carried out without disruption to public safety services.
The upgrades aim to improve daily operations and provide long-term benefits for department staff and the community.
