Man with loaded gun arrested on Cranberry Highway
Multiple police cruisers descended on a residential driveway on Cranberry Highway on Thursday as two former Wareham residents were arrested, one carrying a loaded gun.
25-year-old Jazz Tavares and 21-year-old Ashleigh Fowler, both originally from Wareham and currently from New Bedford, were pulled over by Wareham police officers on Cranberry Highway near Atlantic Boats at 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, April 10.
Police said the SUV initially attempted to elude officers, as it abruptly pulled into a residential driveway.
According to police, Tavares was found with a loaded .22 cal. handgun in his underwear, which was later determined to have been stolen from Randolph. He was also reportedly in possession of a knife.
Police said Fowler was known to have a suspended driver’s license, and Tavares was known to officers due to his criminal history. Fowler’s two-year-old child and another man were also passengers in the SUV.
Tavares was placed under arrest and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, receiving stolen property over $250, and firearm violation with one prior violent/drug crime.
Fowler was placed under arrest and charged with operating after license suspension. Both parties were arraigned at Wareham 4th District Court.
