Marc Anthony's braves blizzard, opens Saturday morning

Wareham was clobbered by more than a foot of snow as the blizzard moved in Friday and continued through the night, leaving 96% of NSTAR customers in Wareham without power.

As plows continued to clear the streets on Saturday morning and residents began to dig themselves out, it was just another day at Marc Anthony's Pizzeria in Onset.

Running off of generator power, the restaurant opened at 10 a.m. -- an hour earlier than usual.

"We usually open at 11:00, but people were coming in," said John Salerno of Marc Anthony's, between taking orders and answering phones. "They're cold."

The restaurant is only taking pick-up and eat-in orders, but as word that it was open spread, customers could be seen walking the snow-covered village streets toward the restaurant.

They expressed both surprise and delight that the popular pizza joint braved the blizzard and opened. Then, they frantically searched for open power outlets to charge their electronic devices.

"We're open all day, 'til midnight, if you need things," Salerno told a customer as he handed off her order. "I've got plenty of food."
