Masons' clothing drive a success

A drive for children's gently used clothing, new underwear and socks, school supplies, and toys, organized by masons from Wareham's Social Harmony Lodge and held Saturday at Wareham Middle School, was a success.

Roughly 30 volunteers from area youth groups collected and packed a donated E.L. Morse Lumber tractor trailer with items, filling nearly a third of the truck. The drive benefited New Bedford nonprofit Gifts to Give, which distributes needed items in Wareham and throughout the South Coast region.

“We had a lot of nice people donate their stuff," said organizer Matt Haveran. "It's just a wonderful thing."

Haveran was thrilled with the event's success, and said the group will likely hold another drive in the spring.

"I wanted to fill a whole truck, and I think we can, I really think we can," he said.
